Ideal fit

Where the work usually starts

If one of these sounds like you, we should talk.

Something changed

A loss, a role that ended, a health issue, a move, a job that stopped fitting. Life moved on. You’re not sure you did.

Something you’ve carried

One event, or years of smaller ones. You’ve built a life that works around it. You’ve never had somewhere to put it down.

Fine on paper

Anxiety, low mood, exhaustion that sleep doesn’t fix. You’re functioning and people rely on you. You stopped expecting to feel better than this. You’d like to stop settling for it.

The same fight

Recurring conflict, distance, or the aftermath of a rupture. You know how it goes before it starts, and it ends the same way every time.

For individuals

Individual
Therapy

You may be carrying more than anyone around you can see.

This is work that goes beneath the surface, to understand what’s keeping you stuck and what it would take for something to shift. Psychodynamic, somatic, and emotion-focused work, with CBT, parts work, and EMDR, adapted to your needs.

Often helpful for

  • Anxiety, stress, and depression
  • Life transitions and identity
  • Trauma and nervous-system work
$150per 50-minute session
Free 15-minute consultation

For couples

Couples
Therapy

You still love each other, and lately it’s been hard to find your way back.

We get beneath the surface fight to the pattern underneath it, the one that keeps pulling you back to the same place. Grounded in Emotion-Focused Couples Therapy, Relational Life Therapy, and the Gottman Method.

Often helpful for

  • Recurring conflict
  • Emotional distance
  • Rebuilding trust after betrayal
$180per 60-minute session
Free 15-minute consultation

For trauma

EMDR
Therapy

Some experiences stay lodged in the body long after the mind moves on.

EMDR is a focused, evidence-based way to help the nervous system reprocess traumatic events and the negative beliefs that formed around them, so the past loosens its hold on the present.

Often helpful for

  • Single-incident or acute trauma
  • Complex trauma over years
  • What talk therapy hasn’t moved
$195per 50-minute session

What people often ask before beginning

Deborah Batres' therapy office in Santa Barbara: patterned armchairs, a soft sofa, and a window framing the mountains

What happens in a first session?

No pressure to perform, and you don’t need the right words ready. We talk about what’s going on for you now, what brought you in, and what you’re hoping for.

How will I know if we’re a good fit?

That's exactly what the free 15-minute consultation is for. We talk, you ask questions, and you get a feel for how I work. I'll tell you honestly if someone else might serve you better.

How do I pay, and do you take insurance?

All sessions are private pay. On request I provide a superbill you can submit for out-of-network reimbursement, and many PPO plans cover part of it. Worth calling your insurer to ask.

Can we meet online?

Many clients use a hybrid of both. Fully virtual is available anywhere in California, and in-person sessions are at Botaitis Therapy Group in Santa Barbara.

How long does therapy last?

It depends on what you're working on. Some come for a focused stretch around one transition, others stay for deeper, longer-term work. We revisit frequency and length together, as your goals evolve.

Do you offer a sliding scale?

A limited number of reduced-fee spots are available. If cost is the barrier, say so on the consultation call and we’ll talk about it.
